Cumberland Plough Boys
Scholarship: $500 to be awarded annually to a high school senior who will be entering college the next fall.
Application Period: June 1st – June 30th.
Qualifications: High School Senior. To be eligible for consideration, the applicant must show proof that he/she is a direct descendant of a Confederate Soldier who left the service in good standing (meaning that the final action recorded by that soldier cannot be desertion or absent without leave) or the applicant must show proof that he/she is a direct descendant of a member of the Cumberland Plough Boys Camp #2187. The candidate must also have a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average.
Scoring of Applications:
Unweighted Grade Point Average x 10 (up to 40 points)
Affiliation Points Awarded….(one of the following)
Parent/Grandparent or Student is a member in the Cumberland Plough Boys and has been a member for two consecutive membership years (8 points)
Parent/Grandparent or Student is a member of the Cumberland Plough Boys but has been a member for less than two membership years (5 points)
Parent/Grandparent or Student is a member (approved by the date of the application) of the Sons of Confederate Veterans or the United Daughters of the Confederacy, but is not a member of the Cumberland Plough Boys (3 points)
Bonus Points (Maximum of 2 Points)
Attendance at any Cumberland Plough Boy Meeting (latest December-June) (1 Point)
Submit a Photo with Applicant next to a Confederate Soldier’s Grave (1 Point)
Total possible points: 50
Applicant with the highest score will receive the award. In the event of a tie, the student with the highest weighted grade point average will receive the award.
Renewals: Any winner of the Cumberland Plough Boys Scholarship may apply for renewal of their scholarship. The applicant must send in a copy of their grades by June 30th to the address on the regular application. To qualify the applicant must maintain an overall Grade Point Average of 2.5.
The scholarship can only be renewed for the three years following the initial award.
